A glorious recreation of a rare guitar in all its splendour.
The Collector's Choice '59 Les Paul Series makes it possible to own a recreation of a specific guitar from the few Les Paul standards created in 1959. Once again working with a specific '59 and its owner allowed Gibson Custom full access so that it could be analyzed, digitally scanned and measured from every conceivable perspective. Now Gibson Custom can faithfully recreate the individual personality of a specific serial number of '59, bringing its magic within reach of a limited number of owners. The details of finish, material, wear and tone in the Collector's Choice range are as near to a perfect re-creation of each guitar's current condition as is humanly possible.
Gibson Custom is proud to announce the sales launch of Collector's Choice #11, original serial #9-0925 aka "Rosie."
"She's pristine—one of the only '59's I've seen that has the prototypical dark cherry sunburst from the latter part of 1959, with very little fade. She also has that quintessential 'burst tone that I've looked for all of my life." - Comments on the original "Rosie" from her current owner, an anonymous collector.
As rare as a 1959 Les Paul is, even rarer are those that have passed from their original owner to only one other. When Gibson first saw "Rosie." they were amazed by her pristine condition. She's obviously seen very little sunlight in her time, which is apparent from the dark cherry finish, the precise character of which many would call "the burst." While some examples from earlier in 1959 have a more raspberry tinge and others a lighter cherry, "Rosie" represents the deeper, richer color that became the standard. She also has very little wear, with only minor checking and few, if any, noticeable dings.
Among her distinct and individual specifications is her neck shape: a late '50s "soft V" that has been scanned and duplicated to be an exact match to the original. Rosie's top-carve, as well as every critical angle and curve has been studied and replicated in great detail. To match that "quintessential" tone, two custom-wound Custom Bucker pickups were designed, engineered and built based on testing of the originals.
As with all 2013 Gibson Custom reissues, Rosie features a hot hide glued neck joint, historically accurate truss rod assembly, aniline dye on her back and sides, accurate binding color and a single-layer, Indian rosewood fingerboard. Add a lightweight aluminum tailpiece alongside a complete package of historically accurate trim and hardware and the details unfold to form a guitar that's as close to the original as is humanly possible to craft.
Gibson Custom captures all of the aesthetic glory and tone of this exceptional guitar in a very limited run of up to 300, hand-aged and meticulously crafted instruments.
