Premium tonewoods and world-class craftsmanship in a topflight jumbo.

With roots stretching back to the 1930s, Gibson's Advanced Jumbo was the most powerful and best sounding flat-top ever built when it was released in 1936. Predecessor to the J-45 and the entire lineage of great "Round-Shoulder Dreadnoughts," this guitar remains a highly desirable instrument today, prized by players and collectors alike. To bring that same style, tone and topflight quality to a flat-top guitar suited to the performance needs of today's player, Gibson presents the Advanced Jumbo Pro. Crafted in the acclaimed acoustic shop in Bozeman, Montana. Made from premium tonewoods, with vintage-correct appointments and styling, the AJ Pro comes factory equipped with an L.R. Baggs® pickup, so it's ready to go straight to the stage. And the guitar looks stunning, hand finished with nitrocellulose lacquer in your choice of Antique Natural or Vintage Sunburst.

All great acoustic guitars start with great tonewoods. The Gibson Advanced Jumbo Pro is built with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid Indian rosewood back and sides. This classic combination yields a marriage of sweetness, depth and richness from the spruce, with clarity and sparkle from the rosewood. The top is supported with a traditional X-brace formed in scalloped spruce braces, and trimmed with a decorative multi-ply binding. Single-ply back binding, a double-ring soundhole rosette and teardrop tortoise pickguard complete the body. The one-piece mahogany neck is set with Gibson's trademark compound dovetail neck joint and hot hide glue adhesive. It is carved to a comfortably rounded "D" profile, and topped with a rosewood fingerboard with split-parallelogram mother-of-pearl inlays. The headstock carries a period-correct decal logo.

To prepare the Advanced Jumbo Pro for the stage straight out of the case, Gibson loads it with an L.R. Baggs® Element™ pickup positioned beneath the Tusq™ saddle of its traditional belly-down rosewood bridge. Via its pre-installed endpin jack, the Element™ beautifully translates all the depth and tonal richness of this fine flat-top to your acoustic amp or PA system, making the Advanced Jumbo Pro a performance-ready instrument. A black GraphTech™ nut enhances tuning stability and is complemented by vintage-style, open-back nickel tuners.

As reviewed by jack daniels ...lol on 1/30/2012

This guitar has the best sound (to my ears) of all the guitars I compared it to. J-45s, AJs Hummingbirds, D28s anything in the room. I took it home and had 3 months allowed to return for a refund or exchange. I took it back repeatedly to compare other guitars mainly because of the "guitar center model only" stigma and some of the AJ snobery comments on other websites. I kept bringing it back home with me because it sounds better than anything I tried. period... I am through hauling it back and forth to GC. If you are a gibson model purest, you may want to pass on this, but if you want a great sounding american made gibson jumbo that plugs in, has a nice finish and plays easy, give one of these a try. Montana built Gibson round shouldered jumbo with rosewood B&S and split parallelogram fret markers. I'm well past the honeymoon phase and still can't put it down

I picked this guitar, based on sound, over the other J-45 and Advanced Jumbos in the store, probably 7-8 other guitars. I also own a few other slope shoulder guitars: a) Brazilian back and side Adv Jumbo b) mahogany back and side Huss & Dalton and c) an east Indian rosewood back and side Bourgeois They are all unique, this guitar holds its own against the others sound-wise and from a fit and form perspective. While it is not a "purist" AJ, I especially like the built in pickup and I think that this is a good stage guitar.

  • Advanced Jumbo Pro

As reviewed by DANIEL LANG on 5/12/2012

Having seen various artists play guitars resembling the AJ Pro (e.g. J-45) in sound, quality materials, and overall look I knew the type of guitar I wanted. Bands such as Hillsong and country artists like Josh Turner all use similar equipment, but this guitar may excell even their choices. The beautiful rosewood and the hand-scalloped crossings really maximize the rich, crisp tone. Not to mention the gorgeous binding, inlay, and vintage sunburst finish which testifies to the sheer craftsmanship and meticulous detail Gibson so rightfully claims. The AJ Pro sings like a new Lamborghini engine: powerful, reliable, scarcely unmatched eminence backing every vibration and performance. The pickups have great response with a perfect balance of mids, highs, and lows, following the natural acoustics of the instrument. I highly recommend the AJ Pro to the musician who finds quality in his work and an audience to entertain.
