Gibson Les Paul Studio '70s Tribute Electric Guitar (H83960)

An iconic guitar from the past with upgraded electronics.

The Gibson Les Paul Studio '70s Tribute Electric Guitar celebrates a great guitar from the past. It features pickups that have a new magnet and pole piece configuration with dual steel blades and a single Alnico V magnet. This more efficient design makes for improved output at less expense. The calibrated pickup winding offers balanced output in both rhythm and lead positions with increased output on the bridge pickup. Covered with solid chrome, these pickups produce higher output than previous mini humbucking pickups, yet still retain a vintage voice with plenty of chime.

Gibson Les Paul Studio '70s Tribute Electric Guitar Features:

  • Mahogany body
    Maple top
Maple neck with unique '70s, Thin-To-Thick with Volute profile
    Baked maple fingerboard, trapezoid inlays
    Chrome tune-o-matic bridge
    Vintage style tuners
    Dual “Hot” mini humbuckers
    Includes gig bag

  • Pretty Cool

As reviewed by Daniel Kubala on 6/29/2012

Overall, I dig this guitar or else I wouldn't have bought it. Of course looks are important when you're spending more cash, so I went with the Gold Top. I played two of these so far, the first one seemed like it needed a little more care on the fretwork (namely along the edges of the neck), but it wasn't bad...the second one, my GT, felt clean. I understood the "70's Tribute" neck description to mean that it felt like it had a 70's neck. I have a 76 Marauder that plays fast and smooth, this fretboard is flatter and is a little wider at the nut...I am just comparing, NOT complaining. Also be advised that the finish on the back and sides is not like a solid smooth finish (like a poly) You can't see thru it, but you can see the texture of the wood grain. That kinda threw me off a bit, but it helps the uniqueness of the guitar. What will REALLY get your attention are these humbuckers...they are a mix between a standard Gibson ball-busting humbucker and a P90...they can be bright AND dirty. 4 stars for playability, 5 stars for sound and looks.

  • Not What I Imagined...

As reviewed by Thomas Kuehner on 1/15/2013

I actually went to check out the Gibson SGs because I'd been on a kick watching some Derek Trucks videos. I walked in and saw someone put this guitar down. I picked it up, and immediately fell in love with the feel of it. I plugged into a Vox AC15 (because that's what I have) and the sound that came out made the sky open up. I HAD to have this guitar. It was not what I imagined, but WAY more. Great choice. All the electronics of the more expensive Les Paul, with a rougher, used, more vintage look!

  • This Goldtop is a true gem!

As reviewed by Tym Johnson on 11/2/2012

I have a '75 Deluxe with mini humbuckers, so I wanted to check out the new version of this pickup. I went to GC to check it out, and the goldtop was stunning! I plugged into an Orange Tiny Terror, and I literally couldn't put the guitar down! The pickups have an aggressive bite at each setting, and I was able to quickly dial in a creamy sustain lead tone that was truly addictive. Never lookin' back!
