A signature axe for Opeth's "old school shredder"

The SE Fredrik Ã?kesson signature model features a single-cutaway body with an extra-deep cutaway for better access to the upper frets, a maple top with quilted maple veneer and thick mahogany back, a 24-1/2" scale length, 22-fret Wide/Fat mahogany neck with ebony fretboard and PRS bird inlays, and a TonePros adjustable stoptail bridge. The Ã?kesson also comes standard with a volume and tone control for each pickup and a 3-way toggle on the upper bout, but this traditional configuration is inverted with the treble controls in front of the bass controls to mirror Ã?kessons preferred setup, which allows easy access to the bridge pickup controls.

PRS welcomes Fredrik Ã?kesson guitarist and backing vocalist for the landmark prog metal band Opeth to the family of SE signature artists. Veteran of the bands Talisman, Krux, and Arch Enemy, Ã?kesson has been described by Opeth's frontman Mikael Ã?kerfeldt (also an SE signature artist) as, an old-school shredder. This background along with Ã?kesson's knowledge of theory and scales has allowed him to reinforce Opeths trademark sound with fast riffs and virtuoso playing.

Includes PRS deluxe gig bag.

  • PRS Quality is Unmatched

As reviewed by Blaine Bueche on 12/5/2012

I have been shopping for a Les Paul for 12 months casually taking my time trying to find the right one. I did my research on all 12 different pickups, chambered versus non-chambered. I played 5 Les Pauls nearly every month for a year. I literally played every Paul on the wall at my Guitar Center. I had my hands on over 60 different Les Pauls, I finally liked a 3000 dollar custom shop model, but just wasnt impressed by the bridge pickup. I couldnt believe I was going to buy a 3000 dollar guitar to fix it up. Also the high E string kept falling off the 12th fret into the binding when I did pull offs. The SC 245 PRS caught my eye, and right next to it was this beauty. The Akesson; Some quick research showed it was an upgraded SC245 with tone pros adjustable bridge, and this amazing EBONY fret board. I played both guitars for an hour, the rosewood fret board of the regular SC245 was definitely mellower and more bassy with thunder. These 2 guitars blew away the Les Paul I was considering. The sustain alone showed the superior quality of PRS above even a nearly top of the line Gibson. The classic rock tones of the power chords are stunning. This is a short scale guitar so it cant do everything, like bell tones of a strat, but my opinion is this a Les Paul done right. The out of the box pickups are amazing articulate comes to mind with power. With the Neck pickup I am playing Slash and Guns and Roses songs instantly. Bridge pickup with the ebony fret board easy metal tones, The pinch harmonics va halen tones right there. I personally love note bending and Led Zep riffs. This thing bends notes like butter. I am so pleased I would have paid 1200 bucks no problem as I was considering a deluxe Les Paul Studio. This blows it away for Tone and sustain and never had a string fall of the fret board.

  • Exceded expectations!

Both the instrument and the service received from the people at GC couldn't have been better. It has been a saga. I started by asking the guys to honer a special price on a Gibson Les Paul Studio pro that reverted to a higher price. They said OK. I took it home and had some problems with workmanship. I took it back to exchange for a different guitar (very disappointed in Gibson). I took home a PRS SE Mark Tremonti signature model. I had problems with the tremolo making tuning problematic. I took it back and settled on a PRS SE Fredrik Amesson model and am absolutely in love with the guitar. The setup was near perfect out of the box. The finish was impeccable. The ebony fretboard is wonderful. the fret wire treatment was excellent. range of tones through my Peavey Deuce VT are an inspiration. Everything works the way it is supposed to. The workmanship is impeccable. The PRS tuners feel & work well. The tone Pros wraparound bridge is solid, fully adjustable and promotes sustain as advertised. I currently have 3 Korean made guitars. An Epiphone Sheritan, an Ovation acoustic and now the PRS. The workmanship on the PRS is by far the best of the bunch. The same is true of 4 guitars I traded in on the PRS. They were/are all very good guitars but the PRS standards are much higher. The PRS was more money than the other Koreans I've owned so you would expect more. The workmanship is far better than the more expensive US made Gibson I started out this saga with. My hat is off to the guys at GC for being so patient with me and the PRS people for making truly excellent instruments..

i purchase this guitar about 2 months ago and have had time to really put it to task. for me it really excells in all corners theres really not any thing negative i could say about it. it has a nice extra thick body and great looking qhuilt top thats very dark almost black, a nice chunky les paul neck and medium output 245 series prs pickups, similar to duncan 59s it might be a bit heavy for some but i like a heavy les paul. it sounds great thru my plexi and 6505. one interesting thing i like about it is it already has one of my fave les paul mods which is the frontmost volume and tone knobs are wired to the bridge as i spend most of my time on that pickup
