Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Traditional with Bigsby Electric Guitar (H71146)
Availability:

A Les Paul with time-honored traditional styling including a Bigsby vibrato.

The Gibson Les Paul Traditional with Bigsby Electric Guitar earns its name thanks to the traditional features you expect in a Les Paul guitar: mahogany body, set neck with rounded '50s profile, maple top, and a pair of Gibson's '57 Classic humbucker pickups.
The most prominent feature is the addition of the legendary chrome Bigsby vibrato tailpiece. Essentially the same design as when it was introduced in the mid-1940s, the Bigsby vibrato tailpiece model B70 allows players the ability to bend the pitch of notes or entire chords for vintage-style vibrato. It has been a fixture on many legendary Gibson guitars, and was named after its late inventor, Paul A. Bigsby, who sold his Bigsby Guitar company to legendary former Gibson President Ted McCarty in 1966. This classic piece of guitar hardware performs flawlessly thanks to several added enhancements such as a Schaller™ roller bridge—a unit based on Gibson's own Tune-o-matic, but with individual roller saddles—for improved return-to-pitch capabilities when the vibrato is used,.a Corian nut for smooth string action, a set of TonePros tuners to help keep the strings in tune, and a Schaller roller bridge to help the strings go back to the original tuning after using the Bigsby vibrato.

With all the fat, sweet, snarling Les Paul tone that purists love, the new Gibson Les Paul Traditional with Bigsby sports a mahogany body with a thick maple cap for the perfect blend of warmth and clarity. Introduced in 1992, the '57 Classic humbucker in the neck position provides warm, full tone with a balanced response, packing that classic Gibson PAF humbucker crunch, inspired by those original PAFs that received a few extra turns of wire. A slightly hotter 57 Classic Plus in the bridge for gutsy crunch and soaring lead tones. These acclaimed units are made with genuine Alnico II magnets and wound with 42 AWG wire, just like the legendary PAFs of the late '50s and early '60s.

The Les Paul Traditional with Bigsby is crafted with all the classic ingredients that helped make this model a legend, and it sports killer looks thanks to a stunning high-gloss Ebony Black nitrocellulose finish. A carved maple top contributes clarity and sustain, while a mahogany body adds depth and richness. Like all Les Paul Traditionals this guitar uses modern weight relief to enhance resonance and reduce weight. A set-in, solid one-piece quarter-sawn mahogany neck has a rounded "Traditional" profile and is topped with a Grade-A rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets, with a 12" radius for each choke-free bending. The neck culminates in a headstock with the preferred 17-degree backward pitch for improved string pressure in the PLEK-cut Corian nut.

  • Very very sweet

As reviewed by Heather Byers on 9/23/2012

This is truly a powerful guitar. The sound is phenomenal and the playability of it makes it easy for shredding, though i'm not really a shredding guy. The bigsby will pop you out of tune if you do any more than a few small pressured touches, so don't expect to be doing any divebombs if you want to stay in tune, but it is perfect for an awesome little vibrato on a string bend, and it's great for a little bit of a vibration over your rhythm playing, and of course for neil young type stuff. this thing is perfect for anything with a little drive, but i have to warn you it sounds pretty terrible clean. I always use my Fender deluxe strat for clean play, because that's what's it's best at. of course i doubt if you're looking into getting a big powerful les paul, clean play ain't quite what you're looking for. Also, it's perfect for jazz, blues, rock, and it's even pretty good for metal. If you're into Duane Allman, Neil Young, Warren Haynes, Jimmy Page, Santana, early Clapton, or early Jeff Beck, this thing is definitely for you.
