A genuine humbucker-powered Gibson USA SG at a price that's too good to pass up.

The SG Melody Maker is one the Limited Run Series as Gibson USA re-introduces the Melody Maker as the budget-friendly entree to Gibson solidbody electrics. The Melody Maker was introduced by Gibson 1959 as their budget solidbody model. It had a single-cutaway Les Paul Junior shape with a thinner body and distinctive, narrower Melody Maker headstock. The one single-coil pickup was controlled by one volume knob—sound familiar? In later years, a double-cutaway and then an SG-shaped Melody Maker were released.

The new Melody Maker is available in four iconic body shapes: Les Paul and, SG, and now for the first time for the Melody Maker: Flying V, and Explorer. The Melody Maker is now powered by a 491T ceramic-magnet humbucker to produce the punch and roar that modern guitar players demand. The maple body comes in a choice of grain-textured satin finishes while the set-in, 1-piece mahogany neck has the slim Melody Maker profile. The wrapround tailpiece, with its tight and solid design, offers the sustain and resonance that many rockers seek. The Gibson USA Melody Maker comes with deluxe gig bag.

  • Great American axe!!

As reviewed by Joe on 6/18/2011

I truly am impressed with the melody maker sg. Great looking, plays awesome, and made in Nashville TN!! It is so nice to purchase an american made guitar at a reasonable price!! I bought the satin blue, came in perfect condition right out of the box, no finish flaws! Gave it a quick tune and played for hours!! Thanks Gibson!! Maybe fender will follow in your footsteps and give us an american made at a good price!! Highly recommend this guitar!!! P.S. I had no issues with the volume control or where the jack is located.

  • Total Surprise!

As reviewed by william mooney on 7/11/2012

I went into GC and played 7 or 8 guitars trying to decide on something I could "live with" in my budget. Nothing was really impressive so I was on my way out the door and for some unknown reason I picked up an MM SG in Ebony. I'm not a fan of the SG shape and not a fan of black guitars-just not my thing. I heard somewhere that the MM's are pretty decent, so I plugged it in expecting to be underwhelmed. This little sucker screamed! The neck felt perfect- not too thick, not too thin, and the body was light and balanced. The 491T single humbucker pickup was bright & crunchy and the guitar had nice sustain and tone. I rolled back the one and only volume knob a little bit and got a nice barky bluesy tone. I was shocked! Looks are truly deceiving. This guitar is a no frills, straight forward, quality instrument. It was less expensive than the other guitars I had played, felt better, sounded better, looked b...did I mention it sounded better? Needless to say, I bought it. It was clearance price and came with a nice Gibson gig bag. If you have an opportunity to buy one of these, do it. An American made Gibson with an included Gibson gig bag??? Get one before they're gone.

  • no frills rocker

As reviewed by mike on 8/29/2011

great guitar..have owned a jackson, and american fender, and several epiphones (high and low end) and this one tops them all. i especially like the simple no frills setup..single pickup (that roars) and a single volume..what else do you need?. great punchy sound..roll back the volume nob a bit and great cleans.. i play it through a vox tube amp and it sounds great..sounds even better through my buddies orange tube. placement of the volume nob is no problem for me, but i could see how some players may find it a bit bothersome, if your worried, hit up your guitar shop and try one out for yourself..but bring some change cus you will want to buy it once you try it tho. feels very solid, great neck, if you didnt see the price tag you would think that it would cost a few 100 more. stays in tune well and has great sustain. i bought the black cus they didnt have the white, but dont regret it..the flat black grew on me quick and am very happy i got it. if you want a straight up rocker thats made in the good 'ol U.S. of A..get it!
