If you need an acoustic electric you will be hard pressed to beat Martin's Aura guitars, great instruments with the best electronics going so far. The Aura system is fantastic, blows Taylors "ce" out of the water (I owned an 814ce).
Acoustically the Aura's sound like the Martins they are, plugged in the Aura images give you a wonderful natural sound, with a very versatile module, including a tuner, anti feedback, image blending and EQ.
The best stage guitar I have every used, and I've been playing for 40 years. Makes miking tedious and provides a sound so close it's not worth the bother. I've bought 3 Auras in the past year, enough said.
I purchased this guitar in 2008 and presently I own it and a Taylor GS5 purchased in 2009 from the Guitar Center. Both guitars are exceptional. I have owned a Taylor 914ce, 814ce, 414ce, a Larivee LV09, a Washburn, and many high end classical guitars, and I have played probably over 50 good high end acoustics.
I played classical guitar for 8 years, and switched to steel in 2007 when I needed more volume and projection for leading worship.
I compared this Martin to numerous other Martins and Taylors and other high end acoustic electrics, and it was superior in every way. For a smaller bodied instrument the OMC is amazingly loud, even louder than the Taylors I have owned. It is even as loud as my Taylor GS5. The OMC guitar has abalone and pearl inlays that equals the inlays on Martins and Taylors costing thousands more. The Spruce top and Indian Rosewood back and sides are perfect in color and grain, and the top braces are scalloped. The bolted on neck I feel adds to the superior sound. I have compared it to other OOO size Martins costing hundreds more, and it more than holds its own.
The fit and finish are perfect as is the Gieb case, and the action is fine and not too low or high. The sound is harmonically rich while retaining superior note separation and intonation. The bass is amazing for an instrument this size, and is as good as the Taylor GS5 which has a much larger body and a Cedar Top.
You can strum it hard or soft without exceeding the headroom, and it is loud. Finger picking is its strong suit, but strummed chords are rich and not muddy. It does it all.
How would I compare it to the Taylor GS5? This is a tough call. It's like comparing a great New York steak with a great Top Sirloin steak. They are a little different, but both great. I believe the Taylor GS series are Bob Taylor's best effort. Overall Martin guitars to my ears sound better in the smaller bodied models, and I would only want a dreadnought for Blue Grass or maybe to cut through a large band mix.
So much has been written on the Fisher Aura system that I won't say much more than it is one of the best, maybe even better that Taylor's ES system.
I highly recommend the Martin OMC Aura. It is incredible, and a real bargain.
I would buy another OMC Aura if this one was stolen or lost.
I had been delinquent in my playing over the last 20 years or so, mainly because I wasn't comfortable with the guitars I had. When I picked this guitar up, it just fit me to a "T". It was comfortable and easy to play, and sounded absolutely fantastic. So much so, that my wife, who was with me, insisted I buy the guitar! I play it most every day now, and still enjoy the sound whether I'm playing through an amp or not. Half the time I don't play through an amp. It's light in weight and the action is near perfect (to me, anyway). Of course you could sum this up by simply saying, "It's a Martin."
