Made with Gibson's original metal composition for the tone ring and hand-engraved metal parts. Earl Scruggs wrote the bluegrass book on a Gibson Granada. Neck and resonator are made of highly figured maple and finished in a rich amber-brown lacquer. Dark rosewood fingerboard is delicately inlaid with abalone hearts and flowers. Multi-bound top and back with 24k gold plate hand-engraved hardware.
I bought my Grenada back in Sept. 1988. All I can say is, it has delivered the response, power and tone I've needed, regardless of the situation. Jamming, playing shows, recording... anything that this banjo needs to do, it'll do. My Grenada has been consistantly even in tone and sustain. It has always given me warmth, with a certain velvet, if you will, type of tone that has come to be expected from a Grenada. Also, the more drive I put on the banjo, the more it gives back. Also, I've always been pleased with the way the banjo mikes on stage, and in the studio. Now, I haven't played the new Grenadas in the past few years. But, if they have stuck to the same formula they were using in the '88-'92 era, then you won't find a better banjo for the money.
