Gibson Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar (519336)

Comfortable asymmetrical neck is Plek-dressed.

Crank up a Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar and experience power and performance that has more than 40 years of craftsmanship and innovation behind it.

Pioneered and developed with the assistance of pioneering jazz-pop guitarist Les Paul--one of the world's greatest musical and technological pioneers--the Gibson Les Paul has become the standard by which all electric guitars are judged. With fat, rich tone and incredible sustain, the Les Paul guitar lends itself to every style and generation of music. From the sweetest jazz to the heaviest rock and metal, the Les Paul is a guitar that can do it all--it is one of the most powerful and versatile instruments of all time.

The Les Paul Standard Guitar debuted in 1952 as Gibson's first solidbody guitar, and has evolved over the course of time to stand today as the benchmark for all electric guitars.

The Les Paul Standard continues to alter and inspire the sounds of today's ever-changing musical landscapes. It features a hand-carved AA maple top with matched chambered mahogany back outlined with single-ply binding. The neck is crafted from a single piece of mahogany. Carefully glued into the neck cavity of the body, the neck functions as a single unit with the body. Its asymmetrical shape is the most comfortable neck offered on a Les Paul Standard.

Burstbucker Pro pickups containing Alnico V magnets wound to vintage specs and with wax potting deliver original "Patent Applied For" tone.

All Les Paul Standard necks receive precision fret dressing and setup with the Plek system. As the guitar lies in a cradle, a computer-controlled robot arm moves along the neck measuring each fret's height, the fingerboard radius, even the bow in the neck. Using that data, the Plek machine adjusts the truss rod, cuts the nut slots for optimal spacing and height for each string, files each fret to a hundredth of a millimeter accuracy, and then polishes the frets. In a fraction of the time it takes a skilled technician, the Plek machine eliminates buzzing strings and dead spots, producing a neck with flawless intonation and superb action.

  • Les Paul Standard "Gold Top"

As reviewed by Chuck Fleming on 1/17/2010

What's not to like! This Gold top is a beauty! Setup, condition on delivery, everything is as I would expect it to be for the price. I love the Burstbucker Pro PUPS and the new neck has a nice feel to it. Awesome Guitar

  • Butter

As reviewed by Finfirst on 2/14/2011

The guitar is fantastic. Whoever is ridiculing the PLEK set-up must like their guitars set-up a little on the rough side because this instrument plays like melted butter. The only negative I have is that Gibson for some reason has decided to use two different size screws for their strap buttons. The rear strap button screw is larger than the standard screw used for the forward strap button and as a result the Schaller Strap Locks (best strap lock on the market) are only useable for the forward button unless you desire to do some "wood-working" on your brand new guitar. The guitar itself is the "Standard" and rightfully so, because it truly sets the standard that guitars should meet. I initially had a Traditional Standard Pro (fantastic guitar for the price) but wanted to upgrade to a Standard. Glad I did, this is something I can hand down to my son.

  • LP

As reviewed by Izzy on 3/31/2010

I've owned an Epiphone LP Standard for awhile and decided to upgrade to the Gibson and it was totally worth it. This guitar sounds great is very playable and I even liked the Plek setup - I didn't need to make any adjustments to the guitar. I also appreciate the lighter, chambered body. It feels as light as the Epiphone version but the tone is definitely superior. Only minor gripe is that I'm not a fan of the guitar cable lock since it makes its trickier to remove the cable.
