Fender American Standard Jazz Bass (515755)
Availability:

Updated bridge and new Fender design tuners modernize this classic!

The Fender American Standard Series Jazz Bass has a vintage body radius and contour for a classic vibe and feel. The Jazz Bass's body is rendered in premium alder for optimum tone and sustain. Its rosewood or maple fretboard features detailed nut and fretwork. The neck is graphite-reinforced and has rolled edges for a broken-in feel from the get-go. HMV (High Mass Vintage) Bridge increases sustain, provides punchier tone, beefier looking plates and 3/8" diameter vintage saddles. String height adjustment screws have nylon patches for a tight fit that won't vibrate loose.

A 12-gauge cold rolled steel plate machined brass backstop increases mass and enhances top end. Socket head intonation screws are engineered for a tighter fit, and are now more stable. The J Bass features Fender®/Hipshot® tuning keys. They work great, and are 30% lighter, minimizing neck dip. Classic 20:1 tuning ratio, cast zinc with aluminum string posts and mounting nuts, and steel clovers. Brass worm gears, steel worm drives.

With a thinner undercoat, the Fender Jazz Bass body breathes easier and has improved sound (more wood influence). Neck pocket paint buildup has been reduced by 40%, greatly improving the wood-to-wood connection/reaction.

The included SKB rectangular design case, exclusive to Fender, has TSA recognized and accepted locks. Fiberglass reinforced nylon trigger release latching system, indestructible cushioned rubber over-molded handle with flush lock out. Injection molded feet and exclusive arched stacking system.

Fender American Standard Jazz Bass Features:

  • Alder body
Graphite-reinforced neck with modern C shape and satin polyurethane finish
Rosewood or maple fingerboard with rolled edges
    20 medium jumbo frets
    Open-back cast machine heads
    2 U.S. Jazz Bass single-coil pickups
    Volume/volume/master tone controls
    HMV (High Mass Vintage) Bridge
    Chrome hardware
    Thinner undercoat
    Improved neck pocket

  • The classic jazz bass is back in a major way

As reviewed by john nichols on 8/9/2009

I've been playing bass for 20 years and this bass is one of my favorites, if not my favorite bass. It definitely has that, "the one" quality. I've played it at a few gigs already and it sounds awesome. All of the classic jazz bass tones are there. I can go from Alt. Rock ,to Funk, Classic Rock, to Beatles songs without changing basses. A little tweak of the tone knob is all I need. Also, the neck is perfect. It's not too thick or fat like my vintage 78 jazz and not too thin like a Geddy Lee model jazz bass. It's just right. Also, it already feels broken in and smooth. I got the Olympic White with the maple fingerboard option, so I think it's an Alder body and it has a more pronounced lower mid frequency that is perfect for bass. Also, the pick-ups are in the traditional 60's era spacing as opposed to the 70's basses with the bridge pick-up closer to the bridge. This bass already has a deepness to it's tone without spending a lot of money on a vintage bass. In addition, the bass is loud acoustically since it has a thinner undercoat of paint and an improved neck pocket. It's a very resonant bass. Furthermore, the bridge, that has always been a problem for me, has been updated. I no longer need to replace it right from the start. This bass is the first bass that I will be keeping completely stock with no modifications other than changing the pick guard for a custom look, not to improve the sound. The sound is all there.

  • Fender has definitely improved!

As reviewed by RaginRog on 10/5/2010

Well I must say I was very, very happy when I recieved the sunburst/maple fretboard Jazz bass I recently ordered. I've owned a few Jazz basses through the years, and foolishly sold them. After exclusively playing a 1999 MIA Jazz bass in my recent band, and having my band mates tell me how much they love my sound/tone (played through my Markbass cmd 102p and 115hr), I decided to treat myself to a 2010 model. The quality, and new features (added in 2008), make this a great offering from Fender. The rolled edges on the neck make it feel like it's as broken in as my 1999 Jazz!! The high mass bridge will stay stock, so Leo Quan can't be happy, as I'm sure not many owners will be purchasing BadAss bridges for the new models. The one thing I did replace was the pickups...not because the stock ones didn't sound good, but because I prefer the tone of the Dimarzio Model J neck pickup soloed. Also, I know many state that these basses aren't much better than the Standard MIM Jazzes, but my opinion is that one should save the extra cash and buy the American Standard...you won't regret it!

  • Love the Bass - Poor Customer service

As reviewed by Brett Rothfeld on 3/17/2011

I love my new American Standard Jazz Bass. But when I went to pick it up at GC West LA. I noticed there was some fret buzz and I wanted some adjustments. The tech came over and took a look. He told me all instruments buzz,he'd already set it up and that's as good as it would get. He also told me that I got a good deal on this bass and if he did anymore he'd have to charge me. In twenty seven years of playing music and shopping at music stores I've never experienced treatment like this. I just shelled out 1,300 bucks, this bass should have been perfect. I took the bass and left. I am taking it to a local tech who will adjust it to my liking. I won't be making anymore major purchases at Guitar Center.
